Tips for taking your blog to the next level.

Brainstorming Ideas When Blogging

There are times where you experience a “blogger’s block” when blogging and this could be likened to a time wherein no topic suitable comes in mind. This kind of experience when blogging is normal and sometimes, it happens when you really need something to write.

This could be the pressure or this could just be one of these days where ideas seemed to be missing whenever you need it. When I encounter these situations, here are some helpful things which I normally do:

a. Read - I always believe that reading inspires me to do something and in this case, that is writing. Whenever there are a lot of things that I want to write about but I do not know where to begin, I believe that this is the best therapy because through reading, I would be able to have fresh ideas in my mind.

b. Keep my mind blank - This means that I just close my eyes and think about nothing for at least 5 minutes. This keeps my mind afresh and also keeps me focus on the tasks at hand. Aside from that, it could also be relaxing as this helps our brain to take a rest.

c. Doodle - For me, writing down jumbled words and ideas actually helps because this is my “brainstorming” way in terms of starting my blog entry. Eventually, this would actually form a concrete idea that sometimes even surprises me.

Hope this helps when you encounter this kind of situation.

Blogging: Part-time or Full-time?

For me, blogging is really essential in my life though it actually came to a point that I stopped working full-time and be a blogger full-time. I am sure that this is something that all bloggers have experienced especially when they are now realizing the benefits of becoming a professional blogger. Though it may sound glamorous and very fun, deciding to go full-time is actually a very big decision. You have to really be prepared to take risks and sacrifice the advantage of the other.

As a part-time blogger, your main source of income is of course, your full-time job but this is supported by the part-time gigs that you have. Though it sounds fun, one drawback is that you don’t have the freedom to think about certain topics because most of your time is occupied by your full-time job. There is also a possibility that your creative juices are already gone once you started writing on your blog. In terms of being a full-time blogger, you have all the time in the world and you could have as many blogging gigs as you want. The only problem in that is managing all of these commitments together and making sure that you have the time to have quality output for each.

The main thing also considered here is stability. As a full-time blogger, the stability that you have is questionable as opposed to having full-time work and blogging. It is really a personal choice and you have to decipher on these two options.

Make Money Blogging

Some of you have clicked on this link hoping for the secret to making easy money online, but most of you know there are many ways to make money online especially through blogging.  Here, I hope to dispel the myths of making money blogging and help you to find an area to exert your efforts on to gain income.

Make Easy Money to Put in the Piggy Bank

Pay per click, Pay per view and Similar Advertising services

Make your blog uglier than the advertising on your page.  A neat, tidy, pretty blog attracts visitors and readers who read your content; then leave.  A well SEO’d blog that has long posts chock full of keywords, but attracts the eye to adsense ads and similar services will bring you higher levels of success with traffic in these ad services.

Private Ad Sales, E-commerce,  Affiliate Sales, and Pay per Post

Building a pretty blog with good content will attract a strong reader base that attracts advertisers, attracts paying customers, and people that will trust in your reviews and referrals to products on affiliate networks.  This is where social media, traffic tricks, and publicity can be turned into cash.

As far as blogging goes, these are the main ways of making easy money blogging, and it is up to you to decide what you want; money or fame?

Keywords in Blogging

Keywords are very important in blogging especially when it comes to making your presence known in the bloggingsphere. Of course, knowing the exact right keywords and knowing how often you should include this should be essential in terms of establishing your blog.

This does not mean that you should be “very technical” when it comes to dealing with your blog posts. Here are some very basic yet helpful tips when dealing with keywords in blogging:

a. Know your “main” topic - This could also be considered your niche especially when you are trying to establish that kind of blogging. The main topic could be subdivided into different ideas or topics which would help you in expanding your scope. A good way to do this is to have a keyword tool that would be your guide.

b. Keyword Consistency - This means that you should have a regular and consistent way of blogging that would automatically make you aware of the required keyword density in every post without “overkilling” your blog post. Practicing makes perfect and I’m sure you need to do that.

c. Keyword friendly - In choosing keywords, it would be helpful to have such keywords as easy to understand yet not as common as possible. In other words, it should be a combination of both.

Keywords, as mentioned are important and could be crucial to a blog’s success. Now, it’s up to you to make sure that such keywords are used in the right way.

Self-Help Your Blog

Blogging is not all about people just discovering you all of a sudden to keep your statistics up. It means that you have to have your own part in making sure that your blog would increase its staying power. What are the simple things which you need to improve? Here are some:

a. Update Regularly - Scheduling posts are important because it keeps your readers updated in your blog updates and also gives a “scheduled” way of viewing your blog hence making it more professional in a sense. Aside from that, as a blogger you could also have time to compose rich content when you blog more and often.

b. Give back link-love - Linking to a blog or a post could work in two ways. One is to leave a comment to the other blog while the other is featuring that blog in your own post. Either way, these two ways could establish your blog in the social network since hence gaining readers.

c. Lay-out - Yes, appearance do matter when blogging and when you have an eye-catching design, it is certainly worth the reading time

Blog Yourself to Success

When most people see this title they instantly think of making enough money blogging to quit their job, but why do we define success as purely monetary?

What if you blogged and became super fit and healthy or extremely confident? Wouldn’t that be success as well?

I blog everyday at something I call my “success blog”. I post everything I eat and everything I accomplished or did not accomplish during my day. Through this blog I can track all my progress in life and have lost weight, gotten health, and maximized my life by blogging. Barely anyone reads the blog, no adsense or affiliate programs, yet it helped me reach success! For an example check out A Tale of One Man’s Road to an Awesome Life. For more on this topic see this article about a “Success Blog“.

You could also just blog on a happy topic and bring joy into your life through blogging. You could learn a ton by starting a blog about something you know little about. You could blog about your favorite hobby and no matter who reads it, you will enjoy life that much more because of blogging.

It isn’t all about the cash.

What will you write about?

typewriter

Many people stress over the concept of their blog. They say they know a ton of stuff and could write just as well as any of the other thousands of bloggers out there, but say, “I don’t know what to write about”. This is a very mistaken view of blogging.

You must blog about what you love; not what you think others want to hear.

The motivation to write about popular topics is usually out of a desire for money or for prestige and soon you will realize that won’t keep you motivated to post! The best blogs are started by someone who just wants to publish his or her thoughts and a readership grows around it instead of trying to read the thoughts of readers and creating consumer articles. For example, I write here just because I want to see if I can bring anyone any insight into the world of blogging and if I can be a “pro-blogger”.

So, do not ask yourself what you will write about, but instead what would you consistently write about, that you have a special knowledge of.

A Blogger’s Biggest Fear

Starting.

For about a year, I have read, studied, and examined hundreds of articles and dozens of bloggers because I wanted to start a blog. Every article that said “beginner” or “how to start” would attract my attention and I would dream of one day having my own blog.

Then one day I finally woke up and realized I had nothing to fear. With a cheap hosting account or even a completely free blog account at blogger.com or wordpress.com you are instantly a published author.

If anyone actually reads your posts is another story, but there is nothing to fear in blogging. Some of you may feel I’m overstating some sort of mass phobia of blogging, but many feel they may lose money, waste time, be criticized, or get defeated. Some of them will, but if everyone stopped before they started then none of the blogosphere would exist and I feel that would be a much less awesome world.

As an owner of and writer for quite a few blogs, I can say that I am glad I started no matter how many people read what I wrote or how many thought I was stupid. While I am no super and all powerful expert on blogging, I started, and thats what sets me apart from a large mass of people who sit passively reading beginner guides, dreaming of a day when they could have a successful and awesome blog.

Blogging Types

Personally, I think that there are two kind of blogging which you could explore as a problogger. These two options are just my observations based on the different blogs which succeeded using that style or type of blogging. This would be effective if there are only one or two persons who are owning and updating the blog. If the number goes more than that, then that is a different approach all together.

Here are the two types of blogging that is evident in the blogosphere:

Personal Blogs - This is the personal blog also known as an online journal which you could keep either for your own reason or if you have something to share personally and you feel that the whole world would care. One example of such personal blog is this one by Brian Gorrell which vents out his own personal feelings about a personal issue. This is a very good example how one’s exploits and adventures could turn out as very worthwhile in the blogging world.

Niche Blogs - Niche blogs are much more than just being personal blogs. These are blogs which focuses on certain topics and other related subtopics. This kind of blogging entails intense research and time in order to keep your blog updated. Of course, the more effort you invest in that, the more expected return. Examples of such blogs includes Problogger for Professional blogging topics, Perez Hilton for celebrity gossip, Freelance Writing Gigs for blogging jobs and so much more!

Of course, having instant success in blogging would mean hard work and I really mean HARD WORK. If you are prepared to do that, then welcome to the blogging realm!
